Timing, space, use and affordability - were some of the considerations for this couple and their pool purchase.
David and Helen installed a pool when the timing was right for them – they had teenage children, adequate backyard space and live in a warm climate.
The result: The pool provided recreation for the whole family and became a social gathering spot for their teens, offering welcome relief during hot summer days.
David describes how it was,
“…a very positive escapism from the daily grind.”
For the children, it provided much enjoyment and a place to socialise with their friends.
As their children grew older and moved out, and relocation and retirement was on the cards, a pool for their new move was not a priority.
With the ongoing maintenance of a pool,
“ …[you] began to ask whether it was really worth it. Plus lot’s of downtime with winter.”

David and Helen describe how their needs and perspectives have changed for each situation.
“Before installing - it’s a case of wanting what you don’t have (be careful what you wish for).”
Now they’re in a different location and without a private pool, but have access to an ocean pool.
“Retired now with a free ocean pool - incomparable!”

The state government for this locality has plans to increase fines, currently open for community feedback.
